Fibre-filling for seats, backs and arms mainly used in domestic upholstery, hollow fibre give’s a luxurious feel.

Fibre can act as a filling medium for a number of furniture components from seats to backs to scatter cushions. It is characteristically not as resilient as foam which springs back and has a ‘squashy’ feel. The actual material is a manufactured polyester filament – about the thickness of a human hair. It’s hollow too, like a miniature tube which then goes through additional processes to convert it into a finished product for seating, pillows and loose cushions before going through a carding machine, which teases the fibres with fine pins to create a continuous web of soft, downy, unwoven material.

Some fibre, once carded, is air blown into a fabric case. This process makes light and fluffy cushions, and can be used for seat backs and some seat cushions.
